Train Journeys – and their way of discovering the “slow way” – facinated me for some time, so ist was only a matter of time, when I would hit the rails for the first time. What is so captivating about travelling by train?
You get away from roads & regular routings. It’s all about leaning back, relax and watch the world slowly pass by the panoramic windows. Multiple day journeys also let you get together with other travellers and learn their stories!
Some train journeys run on historic routes through breathtaking landscapes. Others are luxurious hotels on rails and apart from the magnificent nature they pass, the trains are part of the experience. So far, I was lucky to travel on some very special train routings in North America:
- VIA Rail “The Canadian” from Toronto to Vancouver
- Rocky Mountaineer “Journey through the Clouds” from Jasper to Vancouver
- Alaska Railroad from Fairbanks to Denali Park Village
- White Pass & Yukon Railroad 1. from Carcoss to Fraser and 2. from Cacross to Skagway
Once you got a taste of travelling by train, there will always be another train journey that’ll get a space on your travel wishlist. On mine right now are:
- Rovos Rail – Südafrika
- Royal Scotsman – Europa
- El Andaluz – Europa
