My memories of my first visit to British Columbia are still pretty vivid. It was my first visit to Canada ever – about 20 years ago. We landed in Vancouver and went – by ferry from Tsawwassen – straight over to Maine Island in the Southern Gulf Islands. We’d rented a cozy A-Frame for our first days to get over the jet-lag and discoverd the tiny island.
Next stops were Victoria, Chemainus before we did take the ferry back to the mainland. After Vancouver, we took the southern route along the US border heading for the Rocky Mountains. I remember that we spotted our first black bear a bit east of Hope within E.C. Manning Provincial Park.
Several thousand kilometres allmost through all the province followed through the years. Wildlife sightings, hikes, waterfalls and an abundance of memories. BC changed and a bit and welcomed more and more visitors. But, it didn’t loose its charme and appeal. My favourite region in BC? Vancouver Island. Hiking on the Forbidden Plateau, shell seeking at Long Beach, Saturday Night-Summer-Fireworks at Butchart Gardens, eating Icecream on Campbell Rivers Discovery Pier and go Whale Watching on the Johnstone Strait. Vancouver Island is full of favourite routes & place for me. Bit by bit, I’ll tell you.
