My first long distance flight ever – in 1992 – brought me over the pond from Amsterdam to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. We flew on Martinair – if I’m well informed, they only fly freight nowadays. From Check-In to Boarding Gate we walked … and walked … and walked. I was almost convinced we were going to Florida on food. More on this journey you’ll get later, once that story is finished.
But, the return flight to Amsterdam was special. Shortly after reaching our cruising altitude, our captain told us, that we were flying into a storm about 3 hours from then, on height of Newark. So, everyone who wanted to sleep, should the seatbelt fastened. Almost to the dot three hours later the storm turbulences hit and stayed with us throughout the night. I couldn’t sleep, so I joined the card game – the cabin attendants played to stay awake – in the aft galley. I still remember being very grateful for the distraction and the jumpseat.
Many, many times I crossed the pond since then. As Canada is my favourite travel destination – with lots of regions and adventures still to discover – I see many more Atlantic crossings in my future. Choose the country below and see what North America travel stories are already done:
